On March 27, 2026, a visiting meeting of the Presidium of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Almaty at the Kazakh National Research Technical University named after Kanysh Imantayevich Satpayev.
The event brought together leading scientists, engineers, and representatives of the professional community to discuss pressing issues related to the development of engineering science and the geological sector.

At the session, the President of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Academician Bakytzhan Zhumagulov, delivered a report. He emphasized that under the leadership of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the policy aimed at expanding resource potential and developing processing technologies is being strengthened, once again highlighting the strategic role of the mineral resource complex and the need for its long-term development based on science. He also outlined key priorities, including the transition to digital and intelligent geology (AI and predictive models), the development of national geological data systems, a new quality of subsoil use, and strengthening human and scientific capacity to ensure the country’s technological sovereignty.
During the session, presentations were delivered by representatives of the academic and industry communities. Speakers emphasized the importance of scientific research, innovation implementation, and improving the quality of personnel training as key factors for Kazakhstan’s sustainable development. Particular attention was given to geology as a strategically important field ensuring the country’s mineral resource base.

At the conclusion of the event, an awards ceremony was held to recognize participants for their significant contributions to the development of engineering science and the professional community, including members of PONEN:

• Akbatyr Nadyrbaev, Honored Geologist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, former Chair of the Committee of Geology - was awarded the honorary title «Honored Engineer of Kazakhstan».
• Murat Saiduakassov, consultant at “Center Consulting” LLP, former Deputy Chair of the Committee of Geology - was awarded the «K. Turysov Medal» for his outstanding contribution to the development of the geological sector.
• Bolat Kabaziyev, CEO of «Kogodai» Joint Venture LLP (Orsu Metals Corporation) - was awarded the «K. Turysov Medal» for his significant contribution to the development of the geological sector.
• Alma Bekbotayeva, PhD, Professor at Satpayev University - was awarded the «A.S. Kulenov Medal» for her contribution to the development of the domestic mining and metallurgical industry.
• Ulzhabay Ismailov, member of the Board of Directors and Independent Director of Kazgeology JSC - was awarded the «A.S. Kulenov Medal» for his outstanding contribution to the development of the domestic mining and metallurgical industry.
• Georgiy Freiman, CEO of GeoMineProject LLP, Chairman of the Executive Committee of PONEN - was awarded the badge «For Merits in the Development of Engineering in Kazakhstan».
