On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of Geologist’s Day

In 2026, geologists and professionals across all disciplines related to the exploration and extraction of mineral resources mark a significant milestone - the 60th anniversary of Geologist’s Day, a holiday that brings together all those who have dedicated their work to studying the Earth’s subsurface and developing the mineral resource base. Geologist’s Day was established on March 31, 1966, by a Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The holiday was introduced in recognition of the outstanding contributions of Soviet geologists to the development of the country’s mineral resource base. Its establishment was prompted by one of the major achievements of geological science and practice at the time — the discovery of the first deposits in the West Siberian oil and gas province, which later became a key energy region. Since its inception, Geologist’s Day has symbolized dedication, scientific inquiry, and professional excellence.

Over the past decades, the role of the geological sector has not only remained significant but has also evolved. Today, geological exploration is a high-tech field that integrates advanced research methods, digital technologies, and international reporting standards. The quality of geological data and the professionalism of experts directly influence investment efficiency, the sustainable development of the industry, and the responsible use of natural resources. In this context, the activities of PONEN are of particular importance, as it brings together professionals committed to the principles of transparency, accountability, and high-quality reporting on mineral resources and reserves.

As we mark the 60th anniversary of Geologist’s Day, we honor the achievements of previous generations and look with confidence toward the future of the industry. Today, as in the past, geologists, engineers, experts, and all those contributing to the development of subsurface use continue to address strategic challenges aimed at ensuring resource security and sustainable development. May professionalism, dedication, and the pursuit of new discoveries continue to serve as the foundation for the advancement of the geological sector.

PONEN wishes everyone exciting expeditions, significant discoveries, and continued professional success. May knowledge, experience, and good fortune always lead to new achievements, and may your work bring satisfaction, recognition, and prosperity.
